In Kabale District, a segment of the population is criticizing the government for excluding them from various poverty eradication programs.

Led by Denis Turyatunga, the Village Chairperson of Nyakasa in Kavu parish, Maziiba Sub County, men in the area express frustration over being left out of initiatives like the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), support for elderly persons, and youth-focused programs, among others.

Turyatunga points out that even recent efforts like the Parish Development Model Program have overlooked men, resulting in negative consequences such as increased illiteracy among children and financial instability within families. This exclusion has led to concerning trends like alcohol abuse among men, increased involvement in criminal activities among youths, and early marriages for girls. Turyatunga emphasizes the urgent need for government intervention to include men in these programs for their development and the advancement of the entire community.

In response to these concerns, Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Honorable Catheline Atwakiire Ndamira, recently took action by donating 40 piglets to selected men and women groups in the parishes of Kavu and Birambo, Maziiba Sub County. Atwakiire stressed the importance of responsible pig farming, urging beneficiaries to focus on nurturing the piglets to maturity to enhance household incomes and effectively combat poverty.

This initiative is part of a larger project initiated by Honorable Atwakiire in 2016, initially targeting women but now extended to include men as well.

The project aims to address the root causes of household poverty and promote sustainable economic empowerment within the district.
