Police in Mitooma District have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of killing his own mother.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Paradesi Mbabazi Peradasi, a 58-year-old peasant from Nyampiikye Village, Bukari Parish, Kashenshero Sub-county, Mitooma District.

The suspect, identified as James Nsingwire, also a peasant and resident of the same address, allegedly became violent on July 5, 2024, around 5:00 pm. He destroyed household property and chased after his brother, Tumwesigye Amon, who managed to escape unharmed.

Nsingwire then attacked and killed his mother in her bedroom, smashing her head with a hoe. Neighbors who saw Nsingwire chasing his brother responded and found that he had already killed her.

The incident was reported to Kashenshero Police Station by the Chairman of LCI, Zaverio Muramuzi. It was established that the deceased was paralyzed and unable to run, leading her son Tumwesigye Amon to advise her to lock herself in the house.

Nsingwire had previously been given land by his mother, which he sold before disappearing.

He had recently returned and was staying in his mother’s kitchen, forcing her to cook outside.
