Police in Buhweju District are hunting for a group of thugs who ambushed a 28-year-old man with pangas, leaving him injured.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 05/07/2024 and was reported on the same day.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the victim as Pius Byamukama, a 28-year-old peasant and resident of Mburamaizi Village, Nyakaziba Parish, Bihanga Sub-county in Buhweju District.
Tumusiime further stated that the police have already identified the ringleader as one Saja, the son of Kikuuna of Mburamaizi Village, Nyakaziba Parish, Bihanga Sub-county in Buhweju District.
It’s alleged that the victim left home and went to Kizungu Trading Centre to pass time on 04/07/2024 and returned home on 05/07/2024 at around 7:00 AM with deep panga cuts on his neck.
Sarah Tushemereirwe, 47, who reported the case to the police, said he was unconscious and couldn’t talk properly. However, later when interviewed, he said that Saja and other individuals, whom he couldn’t identify properly, ambushed him on his way home and attacked him with pangas.
Tumusiime said they have already started the process of tracing the suspects to bring them to justice.
