Ms. Hellen Seku, the Commissioner of the National Secretariat of Patriotism in Uganda, has condemned critics of the patriotism training, asserting that their understanding is flawed.
Her message was delivered today, Saturday, July 6, 2024, by Colonel Justus Rukundo, the Commandant of Olive Regional Tamble School of Leadership and Pan Africanism Center of Excellence in Kaweweta, during the inauguration of 930 Form One and Form Five students who completed a week-long patriotism training course at Immaculate Heart Girls Nyakibale in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
Ms. Hellen Seku referenced recent statistics showing that 95% of individuals have a body part they dislike, and some are trained to hate their country or lack information, highlighting the need for training in self-love and patriotism.
Rotarian Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC), praised the training and urged students to avoid practices that undermine patriotism, such as drug abuse, indiscipline, laziness, and extravagance.
Vital Bashasha, the Rukungiri District Patriotism Coordinator, emphasized the importance of quality training in love for the country, financial literacy, hygiene and sanitation, and physical exercise, calling for the sustainability of these efforts.
Atonate Nayebare and Merisa Najuna, participants in the training, expressed their appreciation for the program, noting that it instilled in them a love for their country, discipline, financial acumen, and good health.
