Makiro Parish officially welcomed its new parish priest, Father Abenayezu Gerald, during a special ceremony held at Makiro Centre. The event’s master of ceremonies, Orikushaba Alex, highlighted the importance of honoring and warmly receiving a new priest as a sign of respect and love.

The guest of honor, Fosca Baryomunsi, wife of the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, praised Father Abenayezu for his hard work and encouraged the parishioners to support him in leading the parish. She presented him with a gift of two million shillings to help him settle into his role and urged the community to continue working together to advance the parish.

On behalf of her husband, Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, who is currently abroad, Fosca delivered a message of love to the parishioners, assuring them that they remain in his thoughts. He pledged to collaborate closely with Father Abenayezu and the parish for the betterment of the community.

Joseph Byereeta, the Makiro Parish Council chairman, expressed his gratitude for the new priest and assured him of the parish’s full cooperation. He called upon the Christians to join hands with Father Abenayezu to achieve the social and economic transformation of the parish.

Also in attendance were Assistant RDC Emy Magezi and Councilor Esther Majambere, an aspiring Woman MP. Magezi pledged the government’s support and encouraged the parish to engage in ongoing initiatives such as the development of Makiro Hospital, improvements in education, and participation in government programs like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga to combat poverty.

In his remarks, Father Abenayezu thanked the parishioners for their warm reception and urged them to support local schools by enrolling their children in greater numbers. He expressed concern over the current low enrollment rates despite the schools’ capacity.

He also promised to work closely with the community on ongoing projects and emphasized the need for financial and moral support from parishioners to achieve these goals. Additionally, he announced plans to meet with church leaders to map out the parish’s future development.
