Police in Sheema District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an LC1 chairman in a recent accident.
The incident occurred at Kooga on the Mbarara-Kasese highway in Sheema District.
According to Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, the accident involved a motor vehicle with registration number UAS 658A, a Toyota Premio driven by George Bafaaki, 52, a secondary school teacher at Busiro Secondary School in Sheema District, and a motorcycle with registration number UFJ 927Y, a red Bajaj Boxer.
Tumusiime reported that the motorcycle was ridden by Hillary Bakashaba, 23, a resident of Mugarusya-Kashari in Mbarara District.
It is alleged that the motor vehicle with registration number UAS 658A was traveling from Mbarara towards Bushenyi when it collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, resulting in the passengers being struck and thrown from the bike.
Tumusiime identified the three people on the motorcycle: Hillary Bakashaba, and Robert Kamugisha, the LC1 chairman of Mugarusya cell, Mbarara, who died shortly after being taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
The third passenger, Annet Atwiine, the wife of the deceased, sustained injuries and was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
