The territorial police in Kabale have arrested two Rwandan nationals, Kwizera Desire and his wife Uwingabire, for allegedly murdering Geoffrey Twinomujuni Ntegyire, an 83-year-old resident of Karujabura Cell, Kitumba Sub-County, Kabale District.
The suspects were apprehended on June 1, 2024, at the Kisoro border while attempting to flee. It is alleged that on May 31, 2024, around 8:00 PM, at the home of the deceased in Karujabura Cell, they maliciously killed him with a hammer. After the crime, they packed some of the deceased’s belongings, including a mattress, an iron box, a radio, a suitcase, and a bicycle, and escaped unnoticed.
The suspects had been living with the deceased as helpers. Fortunately, they were intercepted at the Bunagana border by security personnel and, lacking the necessary documents, were arrested. It was later established that they were responsible for the murder.
Upon being brought back to Kabale, the suspects confessed to the crime, citing their frustration with the deceased, who frequently quarreled with them in a language they could not fully understand. The stolen property was recovered, and after the investigation is completed, they will be arraigned in court to face charges accordingly.
