Kisoro RDC Hajji Badru Ssebyala has expressed concerns about the misuse of funds by youth benefiting from government programs such as the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP), warning that such actions could have negative long-term effects.
Addressing issues related to the Parish Development Model (PDM) program in Kisoro District, RDC Ssebyala criticized the youth for misusing government funds intended for their development. He also condemned those contemplating protests against the NRM government, which he claimed is diligently working to secure Uganda’s future.
Ssebyala revealed that security forces in Kisoro are actively pursuing individuals demanding bribes from PDM beneficiaries. He urged the public to report any bribery incidents to their offices, provided they have evidence.
Kisoro PDM Coordinator Dr. Ngabo Herbat Bubasha confirmed that all 58 PDM SACCOs in Kisoro have received 100,500,000 shillings in their accounts. He explained that they are utilizing the Wendi system to facilitate easier access to the funds, aiming to ensure that each beneficiary receives their money before mid-August.
Meanwhile, Nyiramugisha Peace, Chairperson of the Youth Livelihood Program in Kisoro and CDO of Bunagana Town Council, disclosed that over 2,000 youths have benefited from the YLP in its 10 years of existence. However, she highlighted the issue of loan defaulters, which is hindering others from benefiting. She urged those who have received loans to repay them so that others can also benefit.
