Robert Tukamuhebwa, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Kisoro, has directed the police to apprehend school administrators who have initiated the academic term before the official start date.
The Ministry of Education and Sports has designated 5th February as the official start date for the school term, and Tukamuhebwa expressed concern over reports of several schools violating this schedule.
Speaking to our reporter, Tukamuhebwa emphasized that the premature initiation of teaching activities by schools is illegal. In response to these reports, he has instructed both the police and District Education Officers to take action against school proprietors who have started the new term ahead of the stipulated date, potentially leading to prosecution.
Emmanuel Mwunvaneza, the Kisoro District Education Officer, confirmed receiving reports of schools such as Kisoro Vision Secondary School, Standard Secondary School, Real Quality Primary School, and Kisoro Baptist School, among others, already commencing their academic activities. Mwunvaneza declared that they have initiated an operation, and any school administrators found conducting classes before the official term commencement will be arrested, and their school licenses may face revocation.
