The management of Kigezi Homeboyz football club in Kabale district has introduced fan registration cards as part of an effort to strengthen the bond between the team and its supporters.

This initiative aims to identify and unite club fans, fostering both physical and financial support for the team. The announcement of the fan registration cards took place during a press briefing held today in Kabale Municipality.

Julius Musinguzi, the chairperson of the club’s fan base, revealed that the registration fee for the fan cards is set at UGX 20,000 shillings. The card includes essential details such as the fan’s name, gender, card number, and issuance and expiry dates.

Musinguzi emphasized that the card remains valid for one year and requires a monthly subscription of 10,000 shillings, directed to the club’s account. This subscription allows fans to contribute financially and help address the challenges associated with managing players. Additionally, he noted that the monthly subscription grants access to the pitch for the club’s two home games.

Highlighting the financial struggles faced by the club, Musinguzi revealed that Kigezi Homeboyz has fallen short of its gate collection target of 3 million shillings per home game. The club’s best collection to date stands at 1.75 million shillings, underscoring the need for increased support from the fan base.

Brian Akankwatsa, the club’s Chief Executive Officer, expressed his belief that the fan registration cards would instill a sense of ownership within the community. He emphasized the importance of fans feeling like an integral part of the club rather than it being solely owned by individuals.

Regarding the team’s performance, head coach Denis Tushabe acknowledged the challenges in converting opportunities into goals but assured fans that the coaching staff is actively addressing this issue as they approach the second leg of the league. As the first leg of the FUFA Big League 2023/2024 season concluded, Kigezi Homeboyz found themselves in the 8th position with 18 points, having scored only one goal in 14 games played both at home and away.
