Residents in Rukungiri Municipality have expressed optimism about improved development following the opening of a new branch of Kebisoni SACCO in Rukungiri town on 10th April 2025.

Karumuna Alex, the LC1 Chairperson of Kifunjo Cell in Rukungiri Municipality and a SACCO member, commended Kebisoni SACCO for extending its services closer to the people. He noted that the new branch is expected to foster development by making SACCO services more accessible to residents.

According to Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Safari, the SACCO Board Chairperson, the Rukungiri Municipality branch becomes the fourth branch of Kebisoni SACCO, adding to the main branch in Kebisoni Town, and others in Mabanga and Nyamunuka.

He noted that since its official inception in 2001, the SACCO has supported many people through savings, affordable loans, financial literacy, and mindset change campaigns.

Fr. Safari assured residents of Rukungiri that the SACCO is committed to delivering people-centered services and prioritizing the fight against poverty. He added that the new branch will serve members from Rukungiri Municipality, Rwerere, Nyakagyeme, Ruhinda, and other surrounding areas.

Kamugabiirwe Michael, the Rukungiri Municipality Commercial Officer and guest of honour at the event, expressed confidence in a high customer base for the SACCO. He explained that many residents prefer SACCOs over commercial banks, indicating a strong level of trust in these institutions.

He pledged cooperation from the Rukungiri Municipality leadership to support the SACCO in improving people’s standards of living. Kamugabiirwe also emphasized the importance of mobilizing members to ensure the SACCO’s success.

He revealed that Kebisoni SACCO currently has over 10,000 members who are being supported in efforts to overcome poverty.

Byaruhanga Chrysostom Rwakaana, the Chairperson of the Rukungiri District Business Community, hailed the SACCO’s role in transforming lives in Uganda. He noted that many people have been able to save and access loans at low interest rates, contributing to development.

He added that the business community in Rukungiri has high expectations from the new branch, as it will enable traders to acquire loans and expand their businesses.

Advin Ainembabazi, the SACCO General Manager, highlighted various loan products designed to support members in the fight against poverty. These include Boda Boda loans, school fees loans, Bakazi Tutungukye loans, asset acquisition loans, among others
