Residents of Nyamuniga Cell, Kihanga Parish, Buhunga Sub County in Rukungiri District have expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to extend essential services to their area.
This concern was raised today, Thursday, 10th April 2025, during a communal activity aimed at repairing the dilapidated Mitaano Bridge.
Mitaano Bridge, made of timber, is located in Nyamuniga Cell along the Rukungiri Municipality – Nyamuniga Church of Uganda – Ahamuhambo – Kebisoni Sub County headquarters road. The road, which stretches approximately 5 kilometres, is solely maintained by the local residents.
Sylivia Kyarimpa and Rhoda Tusingwire, both elderly women from Nyamuniga Cell, described the bridge as a danger to both life and transport.
Gerald Turyatemba acknowledged several motorcycle accidents that have occurred on the bridge and called for urgent government intervention.
Arthur Byaruhanga emphasized the urgent need for a permanent concrete bridge to replace the unsafe timber structure.
Yorokamu Twinamatsiko, the LC1 Chairperson of Nyamuniga Cell, revealed that the area lacks government-supported projects such as roads, clean water supply, and a health center. He appealed to the government to prioritize the needs of the community.
