Residents of Rwenyangi Cell in Rubanga Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District have a reason to celebrate as the Kataryeba Foundation has constructed a health facility valued at 160 million Ugandan Shillings.

The facility was funded by the family of Erick and Canon Jolly Babirukamu, along with friends, in memory of their late son Andrew Kataryeba at Rwenyangi Church of Uganda. This health facility, named Katabyeba Health Centre 2, was officially opened and commissioned by Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe of the North Kigezi Diocese.

The bishop expressed his gratitude to the Babirukamu family for their initiative in establishing a health center that will provide much-needed healthcare services closer to the people in this area. He urged the residents to take ownership of the facility and make use of the improved healthcare services now available to them.

Canon Jolly Babirukamu emphasized that prior to the establishment of this health facility, sick individuals had to travel more than 5 kilometers to access healthcare services. With the new center, healthcare will be more accessible and affordable to everyone in the community.

Collen Mugasha Babirukamu, the brother of the late Andrew Kataryeba, stated that this health center is intended to serve the local community, and they have plans to construct a maternity ward to provide antenatal services for pregnant women. He also mentioned that they received support from various organizations, including Stanbic Bank and American Towers.

Residents, including Amos Arineitwe Buhe, the head of laity at Rwenyangi Church of Uganda, Charles Behangana Tushabe, and Twinastiko Night, expressed their joy and relief. Previously, they faced challenges in accessing medical care as patients had to walk to distant healthcare facilities in Kebisoni or Buyanja.

Now, with the Katabyeba Health Centre 2, they will have easier access to much-needed medical services.
