The Kabale Chief Magistrate Court On Thursday charged and subsequently granted bail to Memory Ayebare, an Inventory Management Officer of Rukiga District Local Government, on six counts of theft, forgery, and uttering false documents at various health centers within Rukiga District.
During the court proceedings presided over by His Worship Derrick Byamugisha, the prosecution alleged that between May 15 and June 29, 2023, Memory Ayebare committed theft of government drugs at Ibumba Health Center II, which is in violation of sections 245(1) and 261 of the Penal Code Act.
It was also brought to the court’s attention that Memory Ayebare forged the stamp of the Rukiga District Local Government Health Officer (DHO) and falsified the signature of Ketty Tushabomwe, which is a contravention of section 342 of the Penal Code Act.
Furthermore, Memory Ayebare faced four counts of uttering false documents. On May 15, 2023, at Nyakashebeya Health Center II, she knowingly and fraudulently presented a false document, specifically a requisition, and issued a voucher receipt to Alex Muhumuza, which goes against section 315 of the Penal Code Act. On June 29, 2023, at Kitunga Health Center II, Memory Ayebare once again knowingly and fraudulently presented a false document, a requisition, and issued voucher receipts to Perepetwa Nshabahurira, Mauscent Kemigisha, Hope Barisimaki, and Golden Mbabazi, all in violation of section 315 of the Penal Code Act.
Memory Ayebare pleaded not guilty to all six charges when they were presented to her, and she subsequently requested bail.
In response to her request, His Worship Byamugisha granted her non-cash bail in the amount of Ugx 10 million. Additionally, each of her sureties was required to post a non-cash bond of Uganda shilling 20 million. The case was adjourned, and it is scheduled to be mentioned on November 20, 2023.
