The Kanungu District Chairperson, Eng. Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo, on Wednesday, unveiled the budget estimates for the financial year 2024/2025, totaling a substantial 58,451,902,000 Shillings. Under the theme “Promotion of Commercial Agriculture, Industrialization, Market Access, and Digital Transformation for Inclusive Growth, Employment, and Wealth Creation,” the budget aims to address critical sectors for the district’s development.

Education emerged as the top priority, receiving the lion’s share of the budget at 48.74%, totaling 28,489,595,000 Shillings, followed by Health with 21.57%, amounting to 12,606,110,000 Shillings. Administration and Production and Marketing also secured significant allocations at 13.20% and 5.06%, respectively.

Additional sectors such as roads and engineering, statutory bodies and commissions, finance, water, community-based services, planning, trade industry, local development, internal audit, and natural resources were also allocated portions of the budget, highlighting the district’s comprehensive approach to development.

In terms of revenue sources, the budget relies predominantly on Discretionary Government Transfers (65.4%) and Conditional Government Transfers (27.1%), with smaller contributions from Local Revenue (2.3%) and External Financing (0.2%).

Eng. Sam emphasized the early commencement of the budgeting process at the committee level, urging councilors to actively participate by submitting proposed projects for consideration. District Speaker Hon. Frank Byaruhanga addressed concerns regarding fund diversion post-budget approval, emphasizing the necessity of unity among leaders to ensure effective development initiatives.

The unveiling of this ambitious budget underscores Kanungu District’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth, employment opportunities, and wealth creation, aligning with broader national development objectives.
