Residents of Rubanda have turned against their district woman MP, Prossy Mbabazi Akampurira, over the Shs400 million “service award” she received as a parliamentary commissioner.
Previously shielded from scrutiny within their ruling party, Mbabazi, along with Solomon Silwany and Esther Afoyochan, faced criticism from the public, unlike before.
While Mathias Mpuuga had faced backlash for negotiating a similar amount, Mbabazi now finds herself at the receiving end of the community’s ire. Protestors displayed placards expressing their discontent, urging her to return the money, citing it as a source of shame.
The controversy stems from a parliamentary session on May 6, 2022, where Mpuuga, Mbabazi, Silwany, and Afoyochan endorsed the ‘service award.’
The Rubanda Farmers Association, represented by individuals like Agatha Kyatuheure and Martin Byakama, expressed their disappointment, highlighting neglect of constituency issues despite campaign promises.
They demand that Mbabazi either return the money or allocate it to constituency development.
