The Kanungu District Local Government on Tuesday, 28th October 2025, convened a district budget conference to communicate the budget strategy and priorities for the 2026/2027 financial year. The meeting also aimed to gather views and opinions from key stakeholders to promote transparency, accountability, and local ownership of the district’s development agenda.

The conference, held at the District Council Hall, was conducted under the theme “Improved Household Income Through Commercial Agriculture, Industrialization, Digital Transformation, and Market Access for Inclusive Growth.”

While opening the session, Kanungu District LCV Chairperson Eng. Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo encouraged participants to actively present their community priorities and challenges that hinder development. He expressed concern over several incomplete government projects across the district, such as the Kambuga–Nyakabungo road, despite funds having been released for its construction. He urged the district technical team to exercise greater vigilance and ensure effective implementation of projects.

Moses Bangirana Sabiiti, the LC3 Chairperson of Kanyantorogo Subcounty, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that his subcounty deserves better services and improved road infrastructure. Gad Kabagambe, the LC3 Chairperson of Nyamirama Subcounty, also raised issues concerning the lack of start-up funds for a health center and a seed secondary school in his area.

Elias Komwani, the District Councilor representing Nyakabungo Town Council, lamented the lack of road fund allocations in newly created town councils and subcounties such as Nyakabungo, Kihembe, and Kayungwe, which he said are struggling to deliver essential services.

In closing, District Planner Atuhaire Innocent noted that all proposals and departmental presentations from the conference will be analyzed and compiled to form the final district budget estimates for the 2026/2027 financial year.

The district’s resource envelope for the next financial year is projected to be UGX 60,266,727,000 (sixty billion, two hundred sixty-six million, seven hundred twenty-seven thousand shillings).

The Kanungu District Budget Conference reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to participatory planning and inclusive growth through improved service delivery and effective resource utilization.
