Poor State of Kanshekye Bridge in Kagaati Cell, Burama Parish, Bugangari Subcounty has Left Residents in Worry with Difficulties to Transport Their Goods to the Nearest Towns
Speaking to our reporter, this bridge is used not only by Kagaati Cell members but also by other people nearby to transport their goods to town for sale.
Speaking to our reporter, Chairperson LC1 Kagaati Cell, James Bagachwa said the community tried, during communal work, to work on the bridge by carrying stones and placing them there temporarily, but they were also washed away by the heavy waters during the rainy season.
He further said they’re now only waiting for help from the government, saying it’s becoming hard for residents and school children to cross, go to school, and attain health services.
Edson Katungyi, Vice Chairperson LC1 Kagaati Cell, said there’s a government hospital, schools, and churches which need crossing the bridge to go there and attain those services, saying that the fact is that working on the bridge is beyond them as a community, adding they have done all it takes but have failed.
He further said almost every top leader in Rukungiri knows about that bridge and it has been in the plan to be worked on, but nothing has been done for some time now.
Another resident, known as Justus Bagachwa, as well expressed his frustration, saying community members spent almost a month carrying stones from the nearby places to have the bridge worked upon, but due to the delay, they were later washed away by the waters, saying now they only put tree logs, which are not stable as well.
He further showed how responsible it is to have the bridge worked upon, saying people no longer cross to either side.
Speaking to the Chairperson LC3 Bugangari Subcounty, Byamukama Jaston said they are aware about the poor state of the bridge, but it’s beyond them as a subcounty, which forced them to reach out to Smart Agriculture, who promised to have the bridge worked upon during the next financial year, highlighting that the water is a lot, which as well needs support from the Ministry of Works.
