KABALE-Kabale University is set to make history with its first-ever cohort of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) graduands scheduled to receive their degrees at the upcoming graduation ceremony on Friday, October 25, 2024. The ceremony, to be held at the university premises, will see a total of 1671 students graduating across various academic disciplines.
In a press briefing held today, Prof. Joy Kwesiga, the Vice Chancellor of Kabale University, highlighted the significance of this milestone. She noted that while the university previously focused on offering master’s degrees during its public university transition, the introduction of PhD programs has significantly enhanced its academic profile. Prof. Kwesiga attributed this academic growth to increased government support, which has enabled the university to attract a diverse range of professors.
“The transition to offering PhD programs has been pivotal for Kabale University’s academic advancement,” remarked Prof. Kwesiga during the briefing.
Among the pioneering PhD graduands are Caroline Murezi, who will be conferred with a PhD in Business Administration (Entrepreneurship), and Dr. Paul Turyaheebwa, who will graduate with a PhD in Business Administration (Finance and Accounting). Reflecting on their achievements, Murezi expressed motivation drawn from the university’s elevation to a public institution, aiming to meet its rigorous academic standards.
Dr. Turyaheebwa emphasized the importance of government initiatives in tax education and simplification, advocating for greater taxpayer awareness of their rights and simplified tax compliance to boost government revenue.
The upcoming ceremony marks a significant milestone for Kabale University, showcasing its commitment to academic excellence and growth in Uganda’s higher education landscape.
