The Territorial Police in Kabale are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Mirembe Hindu, a 27-year-old resident of Kashaka Nuabugando Village, Bubare Sub-county, Mbarara District, who allegedly drowned in Lake Bunyonyi and died instantly.
It is reported that Mirembe and her boyfriend, Robert Hausvih, left Kampala on December 9, 2024, for a holiday at one of the islands on Lake Bunyonyi, located in Bufuka Village, Mwendo Parish, Kitumba Sub-county, to enjoy the festive season and a change of environment.
On the night of February 1, 2025, at around 9:00 PM, while the couple and others were watching a Liverpool game, Mirembe decided to take a swim in the lake. After a few minutes, she came out of the water but then dived back in and did not resurface. Hausvih and his friends immediately jumped into the lake, located her, and pulled her out. He attempted to administer first aid, but she remained unresponsive. They then arranged for a vehicle and rushed her to Rugarama Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The incident was officially reported at CPS Kabale on February 2, 2025, at around 4:00 PM. Police officers responded to the scene, conducted examinations, processed evidence, and documented the case. A postmortem was carried out at Rugarama Hospital, and the body was handed over to her relatives for burial in Mbarara.
