Local leaders of Council One in Kabale Municipality have expressed concern over the escalating crime rate in the area and have called upon the police to intensify security patrols.

During a general security meeting held at Kabale Municipal Council hall in Kabale Municipality, the LC1 leaders voiced their concerns. Athanasius Mujjasi, the Chairperson of Igabiro cell LC1, mentioned that despite recent police operations leading to the arrest of some criminals, crime remains rampant in the district. He highlighted an incident where a hawker was ambushed and killed in broad daylight earlier this month in Kyanamira Sub County.

Betty Kyomuhendo, the Chairperson of Hospital Cell, and Naris Tumwesigye, the Chairperson of Rwamukundi Cell, pointed out that many young people are idle, leading them to engage in criminal activities for sustenance. They cited an example of a woman who was attacked last week near Kabale District headquarters while taking her child to Kabale Hospital for treatment.

Joseph Bakaleke, the Kabale District Police Commander, reported that since last month, they have apprehended at least 80 individuals in police operations aimed at combating criminals who are causing distress to Kabale Municipality residents.

Ibrahim Saiga, the Kigezi Region Police Commander, urged leaders to refrain from blaming the police for the surge in crime and instead encouraged them to revive security village committees to foster peaceful communities.
