Former Rubabo County Member of Parliament and Rukungiri District Woman MP hopeful, Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo, has called on her supporters to reject politics based on identity and instead embrace unity and development.
Hon. Mary Paula made the remarks on Saturday, April 26, 2025, while addressing residents of Rwibaare Cell, Bugangari Parish, Bugangari Sub County in Rukungiri District. She had been invited for an interaction during a zone meeting organized by local leaders.
Aggrey Tibirahwire, the Rwibaare Zone Chairperson, expressed gratitude to Hon. Mary Paula for honoring their invitation and used the opportunity to highlight key challenges facing the area as they position themselves for donations.
In her speech, Hon. Mary Paula emphasized the need to shun politics of identity, warning that it leads to divisionism. She underscored her commitment to universal development and the inclusive progress of all communities.
The former legislator also assured the residents of her strong vision for youth involvement in local development strategies, noting that young people often play vital roles during political seasons but are frequently neglected afterward.
Habibu Barikudembe, a supporter from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), praised Hon. Mary Paula’s leadership, citing his research in Rubabo County that proved her as a development-oriented and trustworthy leader.
Meanwhile, Mzee Stanley Kitariiko, an elder from the area, thanked Hon Mary Paula for visiting and encouraged locals to rally behind her, citing her commitment to addressing key needs such as water, electricity, roads, bridges, and education.
The meeting highlighted Hon Mary Paula’s growing grassroots support as she positions herself for a return to leadership in Rukungiri district.
