Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo Kebirungi, the NRM flag bearer for Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament, has been officially nominated to contest in the 2026–2031 parliamentary elections.
Speaking to journalists shortly after her nomination, Hon. Turyahikayo expressed gratitude to the voters who trusted her during the primaries, where she secured the flag bearer position with a margin of over ten thousand votes. She urged her supporters to continue backing her as she takes the NRM flag to Parliament.
Known for her leadership in service delivery, Hon. Turyahikayo highlighted her achievements in Rubabo County, including lobbying for electricity extensions to all parishes, upgrading Health Center IIs, constructing and extending clean water sources, and supporting education at all levels through donations and training initiatives.
She also expressed concern over the continued lack of essential social services in parts of Rukungiri, citing Rujumbura County, which still lacks a government technical (tertiary) institution, and Bwambara Sub-County, where incomplete park fencing has left residents vulnerable, with limited access to electricity and clean water.
Hon. Turyahikayo pledged to continue promoting development and modernization in the district, including support for communication initiatives such as Radio Boona and the Boona School of Journalism. She also committed to monitoring the Kahengye Water Project to ensure its success, advocating for roads, bridges, culverts, clean water sources, and empowering women groups to strengthen family and community stability.
She called on all voters in Rukungiri to exercise their democratic rights by supporting responsible leaders who can deliver tangible services, emphasizing unity among NRM supporters and encouraging those who lost in the primaries to rally behind NRM flag bearers and President Museveni for the growth and betterment of the party.
