Police in Kabale have arrested the Head Teacher of Rwababa Primary School in Kyanamira Sub-county, identified as Drake Kishija, for allegedly denying a Primary Seven candidate the right to sit for his Primary Leaving Examination (PLE).

The teacher reportedly blocked the pupil, Ezekiel Ahimbisibwe, index number 002/002472, from taking his final exams on claims that he had not paid a UGX 70,000 coaching fee charged during the teachers’ recent industrial action.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, the suspect was apprehended after the pupil’s relative, Gerald Natuhumuza Esau, reported the matter to Kabale Police Station, saying the boy had met all registration requirements and was duly listed to sit for the exams.

When questioned, the Head Teacher claimed the boy had been missing until police brought him to the school near the end of the exam paper.

Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing to establish the facts. “It is very unfortunate for the young boy to miss his exams.

The police strongly condemn this act,” ASP Maate stated.
