Honorable Henry Musasizi Ariganyira, the Minister of Finance (General Duties), has unveiled the government’s plan to upgrade Mugyera Secondary School in Bufundi Sub County, Rubanda West County, Rubanda District, to seed school status in the upcoming phase.

Currently, Rubanda District boasts three seed schools: Nyamweru Seed School in Nyamweru Sub-county, Ruhija Seed Secondary School in Ruhiija Sub County, and Kibuzigye Secondary School in Hamuhambo Town Council.

Minister Musasizi, who also serves as the Rubanda East MP and NRM Chairperson for Rubanda District, expressed optimism during the thanksgiving and fundraising event for a new archdeaconry church costing Shs2.5 Billion at St Paul’s Kacereere Archdeaconry Church of Uganda in Bufundi Sub County on Tuesday, 02.01.2024.

He emphasized that bringing Mugyera Secondary School under government oversight would increase the number of seed schools to four, enhancing access to education in the district. Minister Musasizi initiated government support for the school shortly after entering parliament in 2011.

The government’s goal is to establish at least one secondary school in each sub-county, and Minister Musasizi personally contributed 7.5 Million Shillings towards this objective. The event, presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, underscored the importance of integrity, humanity, and a walk with Jesus for Christians.

As the guest of honor, Minister of State for Trade Industry and Co-operatives, Honorable David Bahati, urged Kigezi Sub-region residents to harness the abundant natural resources within the area for self-development. Minister Bahati revealed that Rubanda, Kabale, and Kanungu Districts jointly hold 312 million tonnes of iron ore reserves, which, if effectively utilized, could sustain the region for the next fifty years.

Minister Bahati encouraged residents to unite, work together, and avoid religious politics to combat poverty. He advocated for the adoption of government programs like the Parish Development Model to address poverty at the household level. Minister Musasizi shared that 6.9 Billion Shillings were distributed in the 2022/2023 financial year, with each parish in Rubanda District receiving 100 Million.

During the function, contributions amounted to 59 Million and over 500 bags of cement were collected.
