Four students from Kabale University in Southwestern Uganda, Kabale District, have been apprehended in connection with the killing of a 22-year-old man suspected of theft.
The victim, Martin Muhereza, a resident of Nyarugorogoro village in Kitanga parish, Kashambya sub-county, Rukiga district, was identified as the deceased.
According to an anonymous source at Kabale Central Police Station, the suspects, whose details are being kept confidential for investigative reasons, were arrested yesterday.
Information from police sources suggests that the arrested individuals will be charged with murder in court.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed on Wednesday, “On the 15/11/2023, around 08:30 AM, D/CID/O Kabale, D/SP Mukama Hakim received information about an unidentified deceased adult male found at Kirigime central cell, Kirigime ward, southern division, Kabale municipality.”
Maate further reported that a murder case was registered, and the Homicide team from Kabale, led by D/CID/O, D/SP Mukama Hakim, examined the crime scene.
The investigation revealed that the victim had allegedly fallen prey to a mob, and recovered items included flat shoes and stones with suspected bloodstains.
The body was subsequently recovered and transported to the mortuary for a postmortem examination, and the victim was later identified as Muhereza Martin by his relatives.
The murder case has been officially documented at Kabale Central Police Station under reference CRB 882/2023.
