Juliet Musanase, a former candidate for the position of Kisoro district woman MP, was remanded to Kisoro Government Prison on charges related to aggravated child trafficking. Musanase voluntarily turned herself in at Kisoro Central Police Station yesterday morning and was promptly taken to the Chief Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Kenneth Komakech, for case mention.
During the court proceedings, Musanase was unable to enter a plea as the resident state attorney was not available. As a result, she was remanded to Kisoro Government Prison, and her next appearance is scheduled for December 21st for case mention.
The charges against Musanase are based on the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act, 2009 (7) (6). This act stipulates that a person who, while knowing or having reason to believe that another person is a victim of trafficking, engages the labor or services of that victim in that status, commits an offense and is subject to imprisonment for ten years.
