In a somber ceremony, Agaba Ashiru, a final year student at Bishop Stuart University, was laid to rest in his ancestral home of Kanyampumo Kajara, Ntungamo district. The 26-year-old, known for his passion for football and devotion to his family, tragically perished in a fatal accident on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Ashiru, an active football player in the Kitunga league, met his untimely demise while en route to Kampala for a football competition.

The accident occurred along the Mbarara Lyantonde road when the Toyota Spacio he was traveling in lost control and collided with a TATA Lorry.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the Spacio was allegedly overspeeding, resulting in the fatal crash that claimed Ashiru’s life and that of his friend.

During the burial ceremony, Munil Silage, the Imam of Kanyampumo Masjid, delivered a poignant sermon reflecting on the prevalence of familial conflicts leading to tragic outcomes. He lamented the increasing instances of individuals being harmed by their relatives for selfish reasons, urging mourners to remain vigilant and prioritize love and unity within their families.

Silage also addressed the growing influence of witchcraft in communities, attributing it to a neglect of spiritual values and a focus on worldly possessions. He urged mourners to embrace love and harmony, emphasizing the transient nature of material wealth in the face of mortality.

Provia Bagarukayo, Ashiru’s grieving mother, fondly remembered her son as a compassionate individual who cherished both football and family, highlighting his unwavering faith in God.
