A devastating collision occurred on Monday evening, claiming the lives of three individuals and leaving two others injured. The accident involved multiple vehicles on the Kisoro Kabale road near Airland Hotel at Kabuga village, Chahi sub-county in Kisoro district.

According to reports from the Kisoro Police, the crash took place around 6:00 p.m. when a Scania fuel tanker with Kenyan registration number KCH014K/ZF5477, traveling at high speed and allegedly experiencing brake failure, lost control at a sharp corner. The tanker veered into the opposite lane, colliding with a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UDW017N, and subsequently crashing into a Subaru Forester, registration number UBM 445A.

Tragically, the collision resulted in the immediate deaths of Byaruhanga Junior, the 22-year-old motorcycle rider, and his passenger, Niyonzima Erisa, aged 56. Additionally, Byukusenge Federensi, a 22-year-old passenger in the Subaru Forester, succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident while receiving treatment at Mutolere Hospital. The driver of the Subaru Forester, identified as Dusabimana Mathious, sustained injuries along with another occupant and was rushed to Mutolere Hospital for medical attention.

Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, led by Asp Kushaba Micheal and his team, who conducted initial investigations. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations, while the injured victims received urgent medical care.

Efforts to locate the driver of the fuel tanker, who fled the scene after the accident, are currently underway, with law enforcement agencies intensifying their search to bring the individual to justice.

Preliminary findings suggest that speeding and suspected brake failure on the part of the fuel tanker were contributing factors to the tragic collision. The vehicles involved have been impounded at Kisoro Central Police Station pending further inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles.
