The drama unfolded on Wednesday at the burial of Miss Tumushabe Esther in Kinyabushisha cell, Kitimba ward Western division Rukungiri municipality when one of the Masters of Ceremonies declared that the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party was on the verge of collapse.
Byarugaba Michael, the district councilor representing Western division and acting as the Master of Ceremonies, informed mourners about FDC’s alleged collapse and claimed that its members, including Hon Keijukuru Vianne, a Municipal Councilor representing Kitimba Ward, were defecting to other political parties.
This announcement angered mourners, leading to a scuffle for the microphone. Keijukuru Vianne intervened, vehemently denying the claims and asserting his loyalty to the FDC. He stated that while he remains committed to his party, he is open to supporting candidates from any political party who demonstrate the capability to serve Rukungiri Municipality effectively.
Vianne also addressed accusations made by Michael, alleging that he was not supporting the current Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality, Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa, but rather backing his potential opponent, Counsel Isaac Atukunda. He disclosed attempts by Michael and others to hinder representatives of Counsel Isaac from delivering condolences to Miss Tumushabe Esther’s family, including an incident where Michael reportedly slapped one of the representatives, Mwesigwa Queen Elizabeth.
In response, Mwesigwa Queen Elizabeth criticized Michael’s actions, questioning his experience and ethical conduct. She expressed confusion over why Michael had resorted to physical aggression when they were simply delivering condolences on behalf of Counsel Isaac.
