As Christians across the country celebrated Mother’s Day, Father Cleophas Mugabe of Nyakibale Catholic Parish used the occasion to challenge both parents and the youth to embrace responsibility and uphold family values.
Speaking during a special mass, Father Cleophas praised mothers as pillars of families, describing them as “hardworking, knowledgeable, and visionary” individuals who sacrifice daily to ensure the well-being and growth of their children. He urged Christians to always appreciate, respect, and pray for their mothers for the role they play in raising families.
Father Cleophas emphasized the need for mutual support in families, noting that mothers often work hand-in-hand with fathers to secure education for their children, which he said is key to a bright future.
However, the priest warned against excessive spending by parents on children who may not reciprocate the sacrifice.
He also discouraged the growing trend among parents of forcing children into academic paths they are not passionate about, stressing that such pressure may lead to demotivation and frustration.
Turning to the youth, Father Cleophas condemned what he termed as a fear of responsibility, saying many young adults waste money on luxuries such as flashy phones and teddy bears instead of preparing for family life. He reminded them that marriage and family are not picnics but serious commitments
Father Cleophas’ message resonated deeply with congregants. It blended the celebration of mothers with a broader call for responsible living, intentional parenting, and mindset change among the youth—a timely reminder as the nation reflects on the value of family in society.
