A male adult identified by local leaders in Kyenshama Town Council as Tumwine Andrew has been arrested and handed over to the police for allegedly torturing his two children, causing serious injuries to their bodies.
The Chairperson Security Committee and Mayor of Nyabisirira Town Council, Kashari North, Mbarara District, Mr. Deus Ndyanabo, confirmed the report and condemned the act, which is suspected to have occurred after midnight.
He appealed to parents and community members to respect and protect the laws governing children’s rights and to always report individuals who attempt to abuse these rights.
Preliminary reports from the local leadership in Nyabisirira Town Council indicate that Tumwine Andrew is a habitual drunkard who often causes disturbances in his family whenever he returns home intoxicated.
Eyewitnesses reported that the two children narrowly survived after their mother managed to escape through the window and raised an alarm, attracting neighbors who came to their rescue.
Information from security officials and local leaders in Kyenshama Town Council reveals that the children were severely beaten with a suspected hard, dangerous tool, causing bruises on their buttocks and backs. The children, both aged below six years, are yet to undergo further medical examination and investigation by the police.
