A tragic road accident along the Kisoro-Kabale highway at Nyakatembe village has claimed the life of one woman and left four others injured.

The accident involved two vehicles: a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (UAV 646X) and a Toyota Ipsum (UAZ 185L), both white in color. Preliminary reports indicate that the Toyota Ipsum, traveling from Kanaba towards Kisoro, swerved off the road after the Mitsubishi Fuso veered into its lane, allegedly attempting to avoid a head-on collision. The vehicle reportedly overturned and rolled into a valley, leaving passengers seriously injured.

The deceased has been identified as Mukagilasi Merabu, a resident of Ruburi village, Kagezi Parish, Kanaba Subcounty. The injured passengers include Kwitonda Annet (35), Nyiravuganeza Peruth (33), Owimana Jane (35), and Kampurira Obedi (37). They were rushed to Mutolere Hospital for treatment.

Police visited the scene, conducted an investigation including sketch mapping and eyewitness interviews, and have impounded the Toyota Ipsum pending further inspection. The driver of the Toyota Ipsum is reported to be at large, while the Mitsubishi Fuso driver was intercepted at Kanaba checkpoint.

Authorities have called on anyone with information regarding the driver of the Toyota Ipsum to come forward as inquiries continue.
