The Executive Director of Batwa Development Program, Rev. Canon Jovan Turyamureba, has called on the Batwa community and the general public to embrace vocational skills as a means to reduce unemployment, generate income, and fight poverty.

Rev. Canon Turyamureba made the remarks yesterday during the conclusion of a four-day conference organized by the Batwa Development Program, aimed at promoting vocational education among Batwa youth.

The conference, held at Kinkizi High School in Nyakatare, Kanungu Town Council, brought together Batwa youth to gain skills in areas such as mechanics, salon services, hairdressing, tailoring, and carpentry. Rev. Canon Turyamureba encouraged participants to pursue their passions and talents to create better opportunities for themselves and their communities.

The event concluded with a church service, during which Rev. Norah Ainomugisha, chaplain and Deputy Headteacher of Kinkizi High School, urged the Batwa community and the public to be patient, practice forgiveness, and show love to one another. She commended the Batwa Development Program for equipping youth with practical skills to combat poverty and unemployment.

Rev. Benerd Bagaba, Associate Director of the Batwa Development Program, echoed these sentiments, calling for resilience and determination among the Batwa youth as they undergo vocational training to secure a prosperous future.
