A tragic incident occurred on December 27, 2023, at approximately 22:00hrs, in Ahakatindo Karuhanga, Rutenga along the Kanungu Kabale road in Kanungu district. The incident involved a single fatal accident with motor vehicle registration number UBM 878R, an Isuzu white in color. Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle is currently at large.
The accident resulted in the immediate death of two individuals, identified as Tumwebaze Vanice (60 years old) and Atuheire Mary (45 years old). Additionally, nine others sustained injuries in the incident:
- Musinguzi Amos (25 years old)
- Twinamatsiko Joshua (25 years old)
- Kanyesigye Medard (35 years old)
- Musinguzi Edison (34 years old)
- Asiimwe Monica (29 years old)
- Tumuhimbise Gabriel (36 years old)
- Namanya Promise (21 years old)
- Obedi (18 years old)
- Dick M/j (17 years old)
All the victims are residents of Kihihi, Kanungu. The motor vehicle was reportedly traveling from Kanungu towards Kabale when, at Ahakatindo Karuhanga in Rutenga, the driver lost control. Subsequently, the vehicle veered off the road and overturned downhill multiple times, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives and critical injuries to the other nine individuals.
Upon receiving the alert, the police promptly responded, with Sgt Ndyanabo and PC Kifunte visiting the scene. The injured victims were swiftly transported to Katate Health Centre IV for urgent medical attention. The motor vehicle remains at the accident site, awaiting towing to the police for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). The deceased bodies have been delivered to Katate HCIV Mortuary, pending postmortem examinations. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
