There was excitement and joy in Bushenyi District as members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party gathered to elect their new leaders during a well-attended exercise held at Bushenyi Main Stadium in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality.

The highly anticipated elections saw prominent businessman Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba emerge victorious as the new NRM District Chairperson, defeating his closest rival, Cathbert Tukundane, with 583 votes.

Annet Katusiime Mugisha, the Bushenyi District Woman Member of Parliament, was elected Vice Chairperson, while Emmanuel Muhebwa secured the position of Secretary General. Other winners included Olden Taremwa, popularly known as “Uganda,” who was elected Publicity Secretary, and Hon. Michael Mawanda, who took the seat of Treasurer General.

Bushenyi District NRM Registrar, Elicageral Barekye, who presided over the election, commended the peaceful conduct of the event and applauded residents for exercising their democratic rights.

In his victory speech, Hajji Basajjabalaba emphasized the importance of unity in the district, applauding the recent reconciliation between MP Annet Katusiime Mugisha and Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha. He urged residents to avoid divisions fueled by individuals pursuing selfish interests.

MP Annet Katusiime Mugisha expressed gratitude to Hajji Basajjabalaba and Eng. Silver Mugisha for their generosity and commitment to the development of Bushenyi. She called on all leaders to work together to uplift the lives of the people in the district.

The election marks a new chapter in the leadership of NRM in Bushenyi, with renewed calls for unity, development, and service to the people.
