In a demonstration of political continuity and grassroots trust, Minister of Finance (General Duties) Henry Musasizi has secured another term as the NRM Chairman for Rubanda District, reinforcing his longstanding influence within the ruling party’s local structures.
The re-election, announced by Rubanda District NRM Registrar Monday Aggrey, saw Musasizi win by a landslide with 503 votes, leaving his closest challenger, Diaz Drake Owoyesigyire, LC5 Councilor for Hamuhambo Town Council, with only 43 votes. A third candidate, Jackson Tumweboneire, withdrew from the race after failing to gain any delegate support.
Despite holding a cabinet post, Musasizi emphasized that local party leadership is not about titles or financial benefits. “Being an NRM District Leader is not a paying job,” he told delegates at the NRM Conference held in Rubanda Town Council. “It’s a role grounded in passion, dedication, and service to the party and our community.”
Musasizi, who has been NRM District Chairman since 2020, said his leadership journey has been marked by both responsibility and reward. “After you elected me as the District NRM Chairman, the people of Rubanda East also returned me to Parliament for a third term, and President Museveni elevated me to Cabinet. I do not take any of this for granted,” he said.
As political tensions rise across the country ahead of 2026, Musasizi called for unity and renewed commitment to strengthening the NRM base at the grassroots. “Let us all commit to building and strengthening NRM support in Rubanda for the betterment of our home district,” he urged.
Registrar Aggrey clarified that Tumweboneire, a city-based lawyer, was not among the accredited delegates, which explained his lack of votes.
