The North Kigezi diocesan Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe has advised married couples in holy marriage to respect and abide by the marriage vows if they are to have sustainable marriages.
He made these remarks on Sunday while preaching at the 53-year wedding golden jubilee celebrations of retired Rev. Can Steven and Mary Kanyonyi at Kitazigurukwa church of Uganda in the Southern division Rukungiri municipality.
Bishop asked men to consider marrying only one wife because the more women one marries the more problems and expenditure.
He further reminded Christians to put God, the author of love, at the center of their marriages adding that Marriage requires tolerance, love, and perseverance because vows are a marriage manifesto and failure to reflect and commit to these vows are reasons for many failed marriages.
Bishop Asiimwe thanked retired Rev Can Kanyonyi and his wife Mary for this journey of 50 years as it takes commitment, love, and trust in God to reach this far.
He says a journey of fifty years in Marriage is a great blessing that every person is yawning for in marriage.
Rev canon Steven Kanyonyi a retired church minister who retired as an Archdeacon working with North Kigezi thanked God for protecting him up to this time.
He called upon young married couples to be faithful to each other, forgive each other have respect for their families, and always remember their past to thank God for the journey.
Mary Kanyonyi said they have managed to stay together for the whole 50 years by having respect for each other, being honest, and faithful, and putting God first who helped them to stay loyal to each other.
