The Uganda Wildlife Authority Assistant Warden In charge of Community Conservation in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Aurelia Kyarimpa Tumwebaze has praised educators in Kisoro who are doing well in preparing the young generation to embrace Tourism and Conservation.

The comments were made yesterday evening at the close of the World Gorilla Day event that took place at Gorilla Highlands Coffee in Central Division, Kisoro Municipality.

St. Andrews Academy, St. Gertrude’s, Kisoro Vision, and Seseme Girls Secondary School participated in a quiz where the students scored above 80% in knowledge about Mountain Gorillas, Tourism, Conservation, and Smart Farming. Recent data shows that there are slightly over 1,000 Mountain Gorillas in the whole world.

The event also included guest speakers like the Senior Tourism Officer Richard Munezero, Kirundo Sub County LCV Councilor Umuhinza Louis Bishubeho, and commercial farmer Busanza Andrew Mugisha.

Bishubeho commended schools for taking tourism and conservation seriously because job creation opportunities are many for youth who embrace this sector.

Several participants expressed joy at the opportunity to learn about Mountain Gorillas, coffee growing, and using the internet to promote tourism and conservation.

The students will today have an opportunity to hike Mountain Sabinyo as part of World Gorilla Day activities.
