The Secretary for Education, Commercial Services, and Tourism has issued a strong call to all scouts and supervisors to remain vigilant in preventing examination malpractice during the upcoming Primary Leaving Examinations, which are scheduled for Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

According to Mrs Keledonia Clare Bakironda, who serves as the Secretary for Education, there are over 6,297 pupils expected to participate in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations in Rukungiri District.

In preparation for the upcoming exams, a group of scouts and supervisors, who will be overseeing the examinations from outside Rukungiri, participated in a one-day workshop today. The workshop aimed to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively carry out their duties in the designated areas and schools.

Although these scouts are all from Rukungiri District, they will be responsible for supervising the Primary Leaving Examinations in other districts, namely Kabale, Bushenyi, and Mitooma.

Honorable Keledonia urged all scouts and supervisors to ensure there are no disruptions such as examination malpractice, impersonation, alcohol consumption, inappropriate attire, or overcrowding in the examination rooms.

She expressed her optimism regarding the students’ performance, stating that most of the pupils are well-prepared, and she encouraged them not to be anxious while taking their exams.

Tushemerigwe Lydia, the Principal Inspector of Schools in Rukungiri District, emphasized that the examinations will be closely monitored to discourage any form of exam malpractice across the entire country. She noted that exam malpractice has been a prevalent issue in previous years, but this time, the scouts and supervisors are well-trained to prevent such incidents and other misbehavior during the examination period.

Lydia commended all head teachers and teachers for their hard work thus far.

The workshop also had the presence of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Rukungiri District and the Rukungiri District Monitor from the Uganda National Examinations Board.
