A total of 33 killings were recorded in Kigezi Sub-region in the month of September,
The Kigezi regional police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate says that 24 were homicide cases, five were due to hit-and-run accidents and two were sudden deaths, One case of drowning and one of arson were also registered.
ASP Maate notes that Domestic violence, drug abuse, and land conflicts are the major causes of murder in Kigezi which is composed of Five districts
Maate told our reporter that domestic violence topped the crime list in the Kigezi Region which is composed of Rubanda, Rukiga, Rukungiri Kanungu, and Kisoro districts
Maate revealed that police have been able to arrest all the suspects in the registered cases
He added that police have also intensified community policing encouraging people to denounce crime and live in harmony with each other
Maate attributed the fatal road accidents to reckless driving by motorists and cyclists.
In the month of October, Killings resurfaced with the demise of Posiano Mbabazi, 50, a resident of Nyakazinga Village in Nyarushanje Sub-County, Rukungiri District, who was on Sunday found dead in his house. Police suspect that he was strangled.
Another case registered was of Front Hategimana, 19, a resident of Musezero Village in Nyundo Sub-County, Kisoro, who was stabbed to death by his wife following a misunderstanding
