The leader of the national Unity platform Robert Kyagulanyi was yesterday detained for 10 hours at the airport in Dubai where he had gone for a charity concert to raise funds to return Ugandans stranded in Arab countries.
Singer-turned-politician Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, last month announced plans to conduct music concerts to raise money for Ugandans stuck in Arab countries.
According to the post he shared on his socials, concerts were to be held on today 8th October 2022 at Abu Hail Club Stadium in Dubai and the other on 9th October 2022 at Villagio Hotel and Resort in Abu Dhabi.
However, according to the tweet he made today morning, Bob wine says that shortly after reaching the airport in Dubai, he was arrested and interrogated about the leadership of the National Unity Platform, his family members, and their contacts, for almost 10 hours.
“Landed in Dubai at 8:30 pm. It’s now 5 am. I’ve been held & interrogated for 8hrs. They asked me about NUP, its leaders, their phone numbers, my family members & their contacts! I have all the necessary travel docs. They’ve confiscated my passport & my phone. Am literary under arrest.”
According to his socials, Bobi wine says that after being interrogated, was released and his belongings returned. He added that the reasons for his arrest might be politically motivated because he had all the necessary travel documents.
” In Dubai to perform at a charity concert to assist some of the Ugandan immigrant workers. Been held at the airport for almost 10 hours, being interrogated mostly about NUP! My phone and passport have now been returned. Hopefully, things go as planned. Will give an update. Thanks”
