The Diocese of Kigezi, covering Kabale, Rukiga, and Rubanda Districts, is actively in pursuit of 600 Million Shillings for the construction of a tower at St. Peter’s Cathedral Church-Rugarama in Kabale District.

Can Johnson Baryantuma Munono, the head of laity in the Diocese, along with Can Engineer Ivan Batuma, revealed that the architectural design of St. Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama was crafted by the Germans. The cathedral, inaugurated by the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. George Leonard Carey, on May 11, 1998, holds significant historical value.

Munono and Batuma explained that the tower was initially planned for the older church cathedral, currently functioning as the library for Bishop Barham University College. They conveyed to the congregation that the tower would include two vestries, washrooms, two offices, a boardroom, and a conference room.

During the thanksgiving service for Lay canons in the Diocese, dedicated to fundraising for the tower at St Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama, the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament generously contributed 100 bags of cement. She encouraged fellow Christians to exemplify God’s love by fostering unity and mutual care. The guest of honor, Minister of State for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Honorable David Bahati, emphasized the importance of unity among Christians. Minister Bahati urged them to reject divisionism and unnecessary conflicts that could hinder community development, contributing Ugx 26 Million towards the cause.

In his sermon, Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, the Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, urged Christians to express gratitude to God and use their talents and responsibilities bestowed by God to serve Him wholeheartedly.

A total of Ugx 85 Million and 510 bags of cement were collected through both cash and pledges.
