Territorial Police in Rubanda District have launched a manhunt for a gang of machete-wielding thugs who brutally attacked and severely injured Detective Corporal Saturday Sebastian, a 38-year-old Scenes of Crime Officer attached to Rubanda Central Police Station.
The harrowing incident occurred in the early hours of May 10, 2025, at around 2:00 AM at Ihanga Trading Centre in Bubaare Sub-county, Rubanda District. D/Cpl Sebastian was reportedly riding his motorcycle, registration number UFZ 316X, from Kabale Town en route to his duty station when he was ambushed.
According to police, four men on two motorcycles intercepted the officer and attempted to rob him of his motorcycle. When he resisted and sought refuge in a nearby home, the assailants pursued him and viciously attacked, slashing him on the head, arms, and shoulders using pangas.
The attackers fled the scene upon intervention by residents of the home. Good Samaritans rushed the badly injured officer to Rugarama Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
A police team from Rubanda CPS visited and documented the crime scene, and investigations are ongoing.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, has appealed to the public for information that may lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.
“Anyone with credible information should come forward to aid in the swift apprehension of these criminals, who must be brought to justice,” ASP Maate said.
The police continue to assure the public of their commitment to ensuring safety and security for all citizens.
