The Kabale Deputy Resident Commissioner, Ronald Bakak has given an ultimatum of seven days to commercial banks charging PDM beneficiaries’ money to open accounts to adhere to PDM guidelines or close business with them and deal with other Banking institutions.
Bakak told our reporter on Tuesday that while carrying out sensitization meetings about government programs most especially Parish Development Model and Emwooga Program, he discovered that some commercial banks within the district have become substitutes for government programs.
He acknowledges that all commercial banks have guidelines and circulars instructing them to provide free accounts to parish development Model beneficiaries but to his dismay, some banks are continuing to charge PDM beneficiaries’ money to open accounts which he says won’t be tolerated.
He retaliated with his preparedness to engage PDM Sacco chairpersons, and focal persons and direct them to close PDM Sacco accounts with commercial banks that are not willing to adhere to PDM guidelines.
