Christians have been called upon to exalt the Holy Cross as a way of glorifying God for Christ’s redemptive work, recognizing it as the instrument of salvation and freedom from sin and death. They were encouraged to embrace the humility and selfless service exemplified by Christ, even through personal suffering.

The message was delivered by Rev. Fr. Henry Barekye, Assistant Parish Priest at Christ the King Church, during this morning’s Mass.

Fr. Barekye explained that exalting the Cross is both a spiritual and physical act of veneration, serving as a powerful reminder of Christ’s ultimate triumph over evil and his mission to draw all people closer to God.

He emphasized that honouring the Cross is an acknowledgment of Christ’s victory over sin and death through his passion, death, and resurrection. According to him, the Cross is the source of eternal salvation and justification for believers, fulfilling God’s plan for humanity.

“The Cross is a symbol of hope,” Fr. Barekye said, “and the Church venerates it as a sign of Christ’s victory and the promise of new life.”

He urged Christians to glory in the Cross, seeing it as the foundation of salvation, life, and resurrection. He further encouraged believers to embrace their own sufferings with humility, noting that God can transform life’s challenges into opportunities for spiritual growth.

“The humility with which Christ embraced the Cross is an example for all of us,” he added, “calling us to empty ourselves for others and unite for the common good.”

In conclusion, Fr. Barekye invited Christians to openly confess Jesus as Lord, using the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross as an opportunity to glorify God. He reminded the faithful that venerating the Cross and making the Sign of the Cross are meaningful ways of participating in this exaltation.
