The people of Rukungiri Municipality today bid farewell to Lawrence Kashumbusha “Tycoon”, the NRM Chairman for Eastern Division, a committed party mobilizer and head of laity at Ruruku Catholic Center of Christ the King Parish.
Tycoon, as he was popularly known, succumbed to heart complications on Friday, 12th September 2025, while being rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. He was 58.
He was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kagarama Village, Northern Ward, Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality on Sunday, 14th September 2025, in a ceremony marked by praise for his hard work, patriotism, and commitment to Christian and family values.
His Worship Charles Makuru, the Mayor of Rukungiri Municipal Council, attributed Tycoon’s death to God’s plan and obesity, recalling his heavy breathing during their previous encounter.

Delivering his homily, Rev. Fr. Conrad Atuhaire of Nyakibale Catholic Parish urged Christians to guard church symbols from being burnt by other denominations and warned that God’s vengeance is certain.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Monica Batabaire, the widow, celebrated her husband’s dedication to hard work, Christian values, and parenting, revealing that he passed due to fats around the heart.

His son, Martin Arinaitwe “Chikarito,” hailed his late father as a mentor, pledging to emulate his discipline and commitment, particularly in prioritizing education for the family’s future.
