During the award ceremony at Rwenanuura Nursery and Primary School in Buyanja subcounty, Rukungiri district, Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the chairperson Lc3 Buyanja subcounty, emphasized the importance of parents choosing schools that they can afford. Rubondo, who was the guest of honor, conveyed this message while recognizing the school’s outstanding performance in the recently released Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

As a token of appreciation and support for the achievement of over eight pupils who received first grades, mattresses were presented to them. The generous donation came from Dr. Abel Byarugaba Venensio, an alumnus of the school.

Rubondo highlighted the detrimental effects of enrolling children in schools beyond parents’ financial capacity. He urged parents to consider the long-term financial implications and ensure they can sustain their children’s education until completion. He emphasized that some parents, motivated by trends, enroll their children in schools they cannot afford, leading to premature withdrawals after only one term—a situation that undermines the children’s future.

The school committee members, led by Darius Twebaze, the Rwenanuura Catholic Centre chairperson, expressed gratitude to parents, teachers, and the Rwenanuura church community for their consistent support. They acknowledged the pivotal role played by community involvement in the school’s success and called on parents to actively support their community schools to achieve their desired development.

The committee members cautioned against the rush towards schools solely focused on exam success. Instead, they urged parents to choose schools that contribute to the holistic development of their children. They disclosed that the school faces financial challenges, particularly in paying teachers, as the fees paid by pupils are insufficient to cover all expenses.

Acknowledging the support provided by the church in paying teachers’ salaries, they appealed to authorities to assist in securing government aid for teacher salaries. Darius highlighted their unsuccessful attempts to obtain a center number, affecting parents who struggle to meet school necessities. The committee praised Dr. Abel Byarugaba Venensio for his donation of mattresses, citing its positive impact on motivating pupils to excel academically.
