Police in Rubanda reported a case of cattle theft and animal harm that occurred on the morning of October 12, 2023, at approximately 07:00 hours in Ruhasya cell, Bushura ward, Hamuhambo town council, Rubanda district.
According to the report provided by Akatusinguza Bisia, a 25-year-old secretary at the Rubanda district headquarters, the incident took place following the unfortunate death of Tindigwa Obedi on the same morning.
A mob gathered and proceeded to the residence of Rwerekane Jack, who is the father of Nyakubaho Brigadier, the suspected individual. The mob killed two pigs and 57 chickens belonging to Rwerekane Jack and stole seven cows from neighboring households.
The police, under the leadership of SP Barugahare Abel, the District Police Commander (DPC), visited the scene. They found the chicken shelter broken, with chicken carcasses scattered in the compound.
Additionally, two pig carcasses were found within a 5-meter radius from the residence, while the occupants of the house were in hiding.
The DPC called for a veterinary doctor to examine the injured animals. A community policing effort was conducted to educate the community on the importance of not taking the law into their own hands and instead allowing the police and other relevant authorities to carry out their legal responsibilities.
The case is currently under investigation.
