Authorities at Bwama Primary School and Lake Bunyonyi Secondary School in Kabale District have revealed that inadequate means of transport have led to absenteeism and school dropout among the Learners.
The acting Deputy headteacher of Lake Bunyonyi Secondary School, Isaac Kamukama says that as a result of inadequate means of transport, 5 Students dropped out of 85 that the school admitted in Senior One.
According to him, Late coming is also on surge among learners due to inadequate means of transport. The school has an enrolment of 270 learners.
The headteacher of Bwama primary school, Patience Tweheyo says that despite URA donating a motor boat to them, they have failed to raise fuel to transport learners.
She added that besides sensitizing Parents to Educate their children, the school has continuously registered dropout cases hence affecting school performance.
The school has an enrolment of 405 Learners.
The Kabale District Education Officer, Moses Bwengye Tumwijukye acknowledged the issue and said that as a result, Five Learners miss going to school daily.
He said that the district does not have fuel to give to the school since all the schools in the district are treated equally.
